FAQ

You may have many questions and these are some of the most frequent. However, if you still have any questions do not hesitate and call me on 07767739729.

Will there be a lot of mess?

We take every precaution to contain all soot and dust from the chimney. I will bring dust sheets and floor runners and aim to completely seal your chimney before sweeping. I have a L-Class Dust extraction vacuum cleaner complete with a HEPA 13 Filter. I am also fully insured in the event of an accident..

How long does it take?

Ideally you should allow an hour from start to finish for your chimney to be swept. However, depending on what I find, it can take longer on the rare occasion.

How often should I have my chimney Swept?

As a general rule; once a year as a minimum. However,  your chimney may need cleaning more often depending on how often you use your fireplace or wood burner and the type and quality of fuel you use.

Does a wood burner with a liner need to be swept?

Definitely, anything that burns wood or solid fuels will need sweeping at least once a year. With a wood burner you also need to make sure there is no soot build up on the top of the throat plate within your stove which could restrict the flow of gasses from your chimney.

Why do I need my Chimney Sweeping?

What do I need to do in preparation for the appointment?

Burning wood and solid fuels in your fire or stove creates soot, tar and creosote leaving deposits throughout your chimney. Over time, these deposits will start to build up and restrict the passage of poisonous gasses out of your home and increase the risk of a Chimney Fire. Most insurance companies will state that you must have your chimney regularly maintained by a professional for that policy to be valid.

Do not light the fire or appliance the night before your appointment. Heat and hot embers will prevent me from carrying out my work but you will still be charged for the appointment.

Ash is not taken away. Unless you are confident that your fire or appliance can be swept without the ash being removed please remove all ash and embers before hand.

Create at least a 6ft square space in front of the fireplace or wood burning stove. including furniture, ornaments on the hearth. Ornaments on the mantelpiece and rugs can remain in place. I don’t want you to injure yourself so if you need help moving heavy furniture on the day, I can assist.

Make sure there is at least one easily accessible power socket in the room.

Provide parking on your drive or parking vouchers/permits where necessary..
